Pierce's Foundry, Wexford (1839-1960)

Down below us here at the junction of Mill St. and Distillery Road, was the famous Pierce's Foundry and Agricultural Machinery factory. It was founded (1839) by James Pierce to make fire fans, and was continued and expanded by his sons Philip, Martin and John. However, commercial success was interrupted in August 1911 during the infamous "Lock-Out" when the Pierces sought to prevent workers from joining the Irish Transport and General Workers Union (ITGWU). This dispute was not resolved until February of the following year.

In 2004 the site was taken over by Tesco for it's new outlet in Wexford.
